CRC 1601 – Habitats of Massive Stars across Cosmic Time

CDS members associated with the project

This collaborative research centre (CRC 1601) investigates the gaseous environments (“habitats”) within which massive stars form and evolve — from the present‑day Milky Way to high‑redshift galaxies. Across scales from sub‑parsec to megaparsec and spanning diverse cosmic epochs, the project combines high‑performance simulations, observational programmes and laboratory astrophysics to understand how massive‑star feedback shapes galaxy evolution, drives outflows and influences the interstellar medium (ISM). The aim is to establish a unified physical picture of these environments and their role in the cosmic history of star formation.
